The shooting for the Prasthanam hindi remake began on the birth anniversary of Sanjay Dutt’s father and late actor Sunil Dutt, while the announcement of the film was made on June 1, which marks the birth anniversary of the late actress Nargis. While the teaser of the film was released on 29th July (Sanjay Dutt’s birthday), the Munnabhai M.B.B.S. actor shared a new poster of the film on August 8 on his twitter handle and wrote, “Earn the legacy… virasat se nahi, kabiliyat se! #Prasthanam in cinemas on 20th September 2019.”
Soon after the teaser was dropped, Shemaroo Entertainment, the company that has the legal rights for the original film, sent out a legal notice to the makers of the film demanding “a certain amount”.
Deva Katta, who also directed the original Telugu film starring Sharwanand, is directing the remake under Sanjay Dutt Productions.
Talking about the casting of the film, Katta said that the kind of respect and camaraderie that Sanjay Dutt and Manisha Koirala share with each other has added magic to the film. He also said it was a dream come true when Jackie Shroff also came on board.
The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Manisha Koirala, Ali Fazal, Chunky Pandey, Satyajeet Dubey, and Amyra Dastur. After Sooraj Pancholi dropped out of the film owing to the busy schedule for his next film, Ali Fazal joined the cast.
The film is slated to release on September 20, 2019.
